On Resilience
My first week of freelancing went great. I landed a client, had promising conversations with 3 other prospects, started the framework for what will become a podcast, wrote every day, and generally enjoyed my freedom.
This week was the total opposite. Those 3 prospects have all ghosted me. They got some value before they left. I gave all 3 of them some fantastic ideas for their respective businesses.
Evidence:
And then this week they’ve all ghosted me. Won’t return any sort of communication.
As someone still new to this sales game, I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t disheartening. The vibe of this week was disappointing compared to the euphoria of last week.
But it’s part of the game and in the grand scheme of things, getting ghosted by prospects and having a down week doesn’t matter even a little bit. The game is so much longer and bigger than this and reminding myself of that greater perspective helped me move forward.
Today, my son was home from daycare (they’re closed for the day) and I considered taking the day off. Just ignoring all email, work opportunities, etc and taking my foot off the gas.
Instead I just got off the phone with another new prospect who said he’ll sign the contract as soon as I send it over.
“It’s not how many times you get knocked down that count, it’s how many times you get back up.”
What knocked you down this week? Did you get back up and keep fighting?
