The Sales Formula

I think selling is the ultimate skill any person can develop. If you can sell, you will always have work and income. Not to mention it can be developed and evolved into a number of other useful skills.

With that in mind, I thought I'd share the sales formula (or guide) that I'm leveraging in practice to develop my skills.

  1. Describe the Problem: The goal here is to describe what issues people are facing. You want to remind people of the pain they're experiencing. Show them you understand and describe the pain in detail. Misery loves company and a good way to begin the sales process is by commiserating with others.

  2. Create Desire: You want to show contrast between the world as it is and the world as it could be. Describe the pleasure associated with the solving those pain points. Talk about the outcome your product/service will deliver and how it will bring deep satisfaction to the buyer.

  3. Pitch Your Solution: By now they are aware of the problem and have a deep desire to solve it. Show them you can help. What is covered? How will it help them? It's even better if you can SHOW them at this point. And close the deal.

I'm still new to selling so I'm learning, but this is as solid of an approach as any I've come across so far.

Thoughts on how this process could be improved? Or have experience in sales that you think is useful? Let me know. I'd love to hear from you.
